Much like bad weather hit the northern region the previous evening, the home side blew the visitors aside at the Etihad. It was a convincing three-nil win for the City coach's side thanks to goals from Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a display that truly announced their title credentials as they reinforced their position at the top of the table.

Back-to-Back Defeats for United

This outcome marked successive league defeats for Skinner's side for the first time since spring 2024, putting them a sizable gap off the table toppers with their championship aspirations in serious doubt.

The Red Devils' ability to balance domestic and European football with a thin roster has been a widely debated subject since they secured entry to the UCL. The home side, on the other hand, could have increased their lead when a superb Miedema through ball sent Bunny Shaw away only for her to miss the chance but it did not affect the result to the hosts. Having failed to beat any opponent who finished above them the previous campaign, the manager's side now have wins against the Gunners and Manchester United to position them in a strong situation after the opening fixtures.
